Brian Ó Gallachóir is Professor of Energy Engineering in University College Cork’s School of Engineering and Vice-Director of UCC’s Environmental Research Institute. He is also Director of the national SFI MaREI Research Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine. Brian is elected Chair of the Executive Committee for IEA’s Technology Collaboration Programme on energy systems modelling (IEA-ETSAP). Brian’s research involves building and using integrated energy systems models to inform energy and climate change mitigation policy. In addition to informing Ireland’s policy, his research has also informed the recent increase in EU 2030renewable energy ambition from 27% to 32%. Brian is also an elected Fellow of the Irish Academy for Engineering and a member of Ireland’s Gas Innovation Advisory Group.
